Spring 2013 CFW : Zuhair Murad
Sat, 9th Feb 2013
Firebird purple

This will be the last Couture show from the Spring 2013 Couture Fashion Week, and - well - it wouldn't be an understatement to say that this was my absolute favourite collection from the entire week...it is, without doubt, absolutely stunning !!
Zuhair Murad is a very popular red carpet designer, but I think he has surpassed himself with this amazing collection - white, silvery-blue, blue-grey, and peachy orange...but above all GOLD !! And lots of it...

No day-wear was involved in this collection - it's all for evening, so this is a long post...

First of all, a couple of short cocktail dresses to get you in the mood - I loved these two little dresses, the second one with the bird's wings in particular !!

Two dresses in this delicate peachy-orange tone caught my eye - a beautiful colour and one which we don't really see that often...

Exquisite bugle bead and sequin-work here, all in eye-catching gold !!

Here's a perfect dress for Jennifer Lopez, don't you think ? She quite often wears one-shouldered style, and the pure gold would set off her honey coloured skin-tone beautifully, in my view...

A gorgeous halter-neck style with chevron bugle beadwork which reminds me of ears of wheat in the sun...

From pure gold on its opwn, we go to silvery-blue-grey teamed with gold bead and sequin-work. These two below are very reminiscent of the old 1980s Versace style, when Gianni was designing !!

The curling leaf motif reminds me very much of Ancient Roman inlay work, or perhaps Roman fresco-work - ( that's painting on the walls, for anyone who's unfamiliar !!) It's a stunningly beautiful dress...

This dress has the most delicate fine pleating across the bodice which is what attracted me to it !! Don't worry about the sheerness of it - any dress that is see-through like this will get itself lined magically for the red carpet !!

From that lovely silvery-grey colour, we go straight to white and gold...

Oyster satin decorated with intense sequin-work must involve thousands of man-hours - and just like the Valentino Collection, the sheer hard work involved in producing just one of these dresses is staggering !!
The whole 'evening-dress-with-matching-cape' is a new trend that has been evolving for the last few seasons now, and he featured three designs like this in this collection !! I really love it and hope it doesn't go away too soon...

Just take a look at this ornate and heavy tapestry-like cape below - how wonderful !! The great big train coming from sharply-squared shoulders is very 80s in a way, but very up to date too...

Over-the-top gold feathers on this cape will make this a really eye-catching design on that Oscars red carpet - but who will dare to wear it ?!! The dress underneath has a gorgeous scallop-shell design in sequins and ears of wheat down the skirt - truly scrumptious !!

He also did a few dresses in this blue-grey colour without any gold, which I loved to bits...

This dress has a slightly different and very original style cape...

The occasional silver-embroidered dress peeped its head above the parapet...

He also did a number of dresses in just pure white, some sheer and some opaque, but all embroidered with hundreds of man-hours-worth of beads
and sequins...both of these two have interesting back details:-

The last few dresses here would all make beautiful wedding dresses in my view, in addition to the official wedding dress right at the end...

Here's the official wedding dress finale design, and one which I SO wish some star would choose for her big day...

There you have it then - you see why this was my favourite - not a single duff dress here, and from a collection of so many designs, that's a bit of an achievement, I think !! I haven't featured everything from the 45-strong collection, but I loved all of the ones I did...

Next up will be the BAFTAs, coming from the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden on Sunday evening, which is the UK's biggest Awards Ceremony, I guess. The Grammys are also being staged on the same evening but over in LA - I do have Monday off work to get this covered, but it will still remain to be seen whether I have time to cover both ceremonies - we'll see !!

I've been reading this blog and I think these dresses are some of the most gorgeous I've ever seen.

Yes, I agree !! What an amazing collection, and if we don't see at least one of these at the Oscars, than I'll be absolutely flabbergasted !!

That was my reaction, too: I think this is my all-time favorite collection featuered on this blog.

I'm usually just a lurker on this blog, but I gasped out loud at so many of these dresses that I had to post. What a stunning collection!

(I always love your best dressed/worst dressed lists as well!)

Hi there and welcome to the comments column !! I'm glad you felt moved to come and comment, because it's lovely to know that someone new is out there reading on a regular basis - sometimes it feels like LJ is a sinking ship.

I loved this collection the best out of all the Couture shows this Spring, and I'm certain that we'll see some of these at the Oscars !! If not, there's no justice in the fashion world after all...

Hi Harbourwitch, and welcome to my journal.
I also adored this amazing collection, and actually think this is the best Couture Collection from the whole of Couture Fashion Week, even though he isn't officially a Haute Couture designer !! He is a popular choice on the red carpet these days, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Oscars !!

These dresses are absolutely gorgeous! I look forward to seeing some of them on the red carpet.

Oh, to have a) the money b) the figure and c) the occasion to wear one! :-)
Sat, 9th Feb 2013 (UTC)
Oh yes indeed !! Chance would be a fine thing in all three cases, I think...
Sat, 9th Feb 2013 (UTC)
I'm not generally a fan of gold, preferring silver, but those gold and white dresses are stunning.
Sat, 9th Feb 2013 (UTC)
Me too actually - the silver and white dress is gorgeous !! However, just for once, I can see the attraction of gold for its own sake !!

*dies from all the gorgeousness!*

If JLo doesn't pick that dress, she needs her head examined altho Jessica Alba would rock that too.
Sat, 9th Feb 2013 (UTC)
The second birds-wing dress reminds me of a ballet costume - the bodice would work beautifully in a production of Swan Lake!

The embellishment on these gowns is amazing; I can't imagine the time involved laying out all the beadwork, but I would give my firstborn child to be able to run my fingers over the designs and see them up close!

I'm so glad this is the last collection you covered - after this, the others would have seemed so disappointing by comparison. Murad simply nailed this!

Absolutely amazing! Stunning! Save a one piece I didn't like (the 2nd orange) and 2-3 I just wasn't fond of, everything is absolutely gorgeous. One stunning piece after another. Wow.

Girls love their sparklies! They are all beautiful.
Mon, 11th Feb 2013 (UTC)
Some of those are just stunning! I love the retro 30's style.

Wow!! I can't even begin to pick a favorite! Absolutely stunning work from an amazingly talented designer :D

Oh my! So many beautiful designs to wrap my mind, if not my body, around!
All the golds, whites and silver look so luxurious yet so clean and neat. Some of the designs bring to mind decadent Russian fashions - the thick brocade, the heavy silver embroidery and sequins... it all reminded me of my grandmother's jewellery! And those beautiful capes are to die for. I was on the fence about capes, but they work so well with evening dresses! Maybe for a hypothetical-future wedding dress I'd replace the veil with a gorgeous cape like the ones shown here, especially the last one!
