TOP 10 WORST DRESSED !!Here's part 2 of my look at the first really major awards ceremony of the season - the Golden Globes, and what people really should have thought twice about wearing - in my opinion !! My Top 10 Worst Dressed stars of the day...
ANNA GUNNWell - I couldn't decide whether this was a huge bow of fruit and flowers strung round her neck, or whether it was actually a misguided bit of over-design on the part of the dress designer - doesn't matter actually, because it's simply hideous anyway !! Now I'm not averse to a bit of fruit here and there really, but this is a veritable
cornucopia...

In addition to which the dress itself really doesn't fit that well - at least it just hangs down with very little shape round her legs and looks to be a bit too high under the arms - a puzzling mess...
DORIS KEARNS GOODWINIn case you are unfamiliar with this good lady, as I was, it turns out that she is nothing less than a Presidential Historian, and it was her award-winning book "
Team of Rivals" that Steven Spielberg's film '
Lincoln' was based on...she was also Consultant and interviewed extensively for PBS and the History Channel's documentaries on LBJ, the Kennedy family, Franklin Roosevelt,
Abraham and Mary Lincoln, and Ken Burns' "The History of Baseball." So she is a force to be reckoned with - if you want to make a film for cinema or telly about any past president, and need to know the facts, she is yer woman !!

For a red carpet event though, she may not be the best person to go to for advice - this little jacket and trousers were just way too under-dressed in my view, glittery though they may be - she just looked much too casual - and I like trousers on the red carpet, as you all know !!
GIULIANA RANCICTo call this dress ill-advised for any public appearance, never mind the Golden Globes red carpet, would be something of an under-statement !! Designed by Celia Kritharioti, it creates the illusion of a droopy bosom where there - um - most probably isn't one...

It's all in the lace pattern, you see !! This would have been a great choice, were it not for that braless effect caused by the pattern of black on white lace...
The other thing is that the messy updo is one thing, but the '
scraped back in a hair-band, to apply make-up Look' is another thing entirely !! What a pity she got them confused...
HALLE BERRYHalle is usually on my Best Dressed List, isn't she - it's a rare red carpet event that she attends where she doesn't anyway !! Well, this is definitely one of those rare occasions, because this dress really didn't do it for me
at all...

This was from the Atelier Versace 2012 Collection, and features the usual thigh-high split - often a Versace design detail, but now looks like a caricature of itself after Angelina Jolie posed endlessly all evening, at the last Oscars ceremony - remember that ?!! This kind of thing has been done to death now I feel, and it would be nice to see some new ways of revealing legs in a long dress.
That's not really the main gripe though - the colours and the prints itself is a bit too all over the place - it's very sketchy and looks like two distinct prints anyway, which I always think looks confused and messy !! Halle could definitely have done better in my view.
JESSICA CHASTAINAs could Jessica here - what is it with dresses that have just two strips down over the bust, and very little else ?!! This is not a great look - nor even a mildly good one - so what she was thinking, we'll never know...

Not really convinced by the strange '
pulled-back-at-two-corners' hairdo
either - it gives her a weird pointy look that I suspect she would be mortified to see...if only she could have seen it in the mirror before she left the hotel !!
LOUISE ROEMy Goodness - here's another black lace dress waiting to trip up the wearer - this time, it's the fact that her underwear is far too prominent. I hate this trend for showing off the undies, even if it is just an anonymous black strip cross her bosom!! The lower part looks alarmingly like granny pants to me, or perhaps one of those 60s style girdles...

She did choose a scary pair of shoes too - all those spikes !! Great big square studs along so many straps of narrow black leather looks a little like overkill to me...
LUCY LIUAs promised in the comments column of my last post, here's Lucy in her ultra-chintzy gown designed by Carolina Herrera from her recent Pre-Fall 2013 Collection...

I guess you could say that this looks just like a huge rose bush viewed against a pale blue summery sky - on the other hand, you could say, as I did - 'What a truly
hideous print !!
You see, what I see is a design that is so
utterly chintzy - like grandma's particularly dreadful garish sofa, but the thing is that if the colours were different, it would probably have been lovely !!
In my opinion, what we have here is what I would definitely call a '
Marmite' dress - you either love it to bits and covet it beyond any reasonable bounds, or hate it - and can't even stand to look at it - and I'm afraid that I fall into the last category...
Lucy herself, looks marvellous of course - with her expertly done fishtail plait and her refined make-up, she could have taken a Gold Star
easily, had her dress been - say, luscious pink and cream roses on a charcoal grey or pale green background...but there you go - dark green leaves with pink and yellow roses, on a pale sky-blue background just looks garish to me, and I know that some of you really liked this - as I said, a Marmite dress !!
MARION COTILLARDMarion Cotillard is still the face of the Lady Dior handbag range, through the three designers that have been responsible for their ranges since 2008 - now she has had a hand in designing a bag herself for them, and she loves the Dior brand so much that she rarely wears anything else !!

Here, she wears a rather weird little red cocktail dress, which is clearly designed by Raf Simons, as it has his handwriting all over it - however, I really didn't think this was either elegant enough or dressy enough for such a big event - after all, the Golden Globes are second only to the Oscars, and the statement red-carpet gown is
de rigeur...
Some fashion critics didn't like the fact that her shoes seemed to match her dress pretty much exactly, but I did - they are wickedly pointy and orangey-red - what's not to love ?!! How she managed to stand like this for a photo though, is a mystery !!
ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEYRosie went for one of the beautiful new black gowns with wide quilted leather cummerbunds from the recently revamped Saint Laurent label, designed by Hedi Slimane, and very good it looked too until...

Well - until she was photographed from the side - did she know just how much side-boob was on show ?!! I'll warrant not...'tis a great pity, because were it not for that small detail, she would have ended up in my Best Dressed list for sure !!
SARAH HYLANDI really don't know what it is about Sarah Hyland, but remember, she is only
22 - believe it or not...
There's nothing actually
wrong with her dress, and I reckon, say a forty year old would enjoy wearing it a lot, showing off a really good shape too.
Her make-up too, is way, way too old for her pretty little baby-face - she really doesn't need to have it trowelled on in this early 60s style !! Also, her hair has been styled rather like a 1960s vamp - think Gina Lollobrigida in her early 60s heyday...

I can't quite square this vision of busty vampish sex-siren with the little teenaged daughter of '
Modern Family' - how is it possible to make a 22 year old look about 35 like this ?!! Her face looks like one of those toddler Beauty Pageant Queens - weirdly unnatural in make up at the age of six, don't you think ?!!
Anyway, she is the last of my Worst Dressed list, although she wasn't, strictly speaking, badly dressed - just badly styled and over made up !!
Hope you enjoyed this - next up will be the first of my Couture Fashion Week runway-show reports for Spring 2013...
